New building practices rely on the use of materials that have high insulation values promoting energy efficient housing. New methods and materials used in the construction of dwellings have produced dwellings that are almost airtight, this has produced unhealthy and unnatural living conditions for the inhabitants. This website has been created with the purposes of promoting healthy living conditions with the use of natural ventilation with an emphasis on saving energy. Studies have been done on dwellings that have shown an increase in indoor levels of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and other gases, the use of household chemicals have increased and produced a dwellings filled with a cocktail of chemicals. Household temperatures had risen five degrees centigrade over 30 years, the average home in England is now 18 degrees centigrade. The improvements to modern day living; showers that produce instant hot water, electric kettles, steam irons, tumble dryers and changes in cooking methods (steaming etc) the moisture content and water vapour has also increased in households. This increase in household moisture and the use of materials with high insulation values is having a detrimental effect on the inhabitants and the materials in these buildings. Every room within the household should have a bare minimum of four air changes per hour, bathrooms and kitchens should have considerably more up to fifteen air changes per hour. The fitting of replacement windows increases the air tightness of a dwelling leading to a change in air quality. Where replacement windows are fitted there is a reduction in the background air change rate in all case. Installing replacement windows, without trickle ventilators, may mean for the average property in the UK moving from a situation where the risk of mould growth is low to a situation where there is a high risk of mould growth for all but ‘dry’ occupancy. We have designed and patented a product that will disperse moisture from attics and loft spaces, this product has been designed to keep heat loss to a minimum. A further product has been developed for use in rooms ( patent pending). See technical results for performance.
